Remove wax from hardwood floor

Remove wax from hardwood floor

Every wax stain requires a special attention. If you have treated hardwood floors, then it will be much easier for you to remove these kind of stains.

Do Not Remove Hot Wax

If you spill some melted wax on the floor, don’t run and try to remove it.

If you do this, you will only remove some of the wax and you will create a thin layer of wax that will be very hard to remove. The best thing to do is just let it harden and then remove it. To make the process faster, you can even put a bag with ice cubes over it.

Be careful when using chemicals

You can find numerous wax removal chemicals on the market, but you need to use only the ones that are specially made for hardwood floors. Avoid buying products that contain ammonia. Most of hardwood floors are covered with a layer of polyurethane or any other similar substance. The ammonia will cause a chemical reaction when in contact with the polyurethane and it will melt it.

Simpler is better

Rather then spending money on commercial cleaner, you should try and make your own clean-up solution. Put a few drops of oil-free soap and a splash of white distilled vinegar into a bucket or a similar recipient. Then fill it with hot water. Use a sponge mop to normally clean the floors.

Scrape away the wax

Be very careful when you attempt to remove wax from the floors. You may easily damage the floor by scratching it. The best way to do this is by using a putty knife. Apply the same pressure on the edge of the wax stain and easily remove it. Then, use a towel and rub the spot.
