Changing the rollers on a sliding door

Usually, slide door rollers are made from metal or plastic and in time they will need to be changed. Plastic will surely get chipped and the metal will rust.

Tools and Materials

  • Screwdrivers
  • Screws
  • Sliding screen door rollers
  • Protective gloves and overalls

Removing the screen door

Usually you will just need to push the door up and the down rollers will slip off.

Then get the upper rollers off. If this doesn’t work, use a screw driver to loosen the tracks.

Removing the rollers

Use a screwdriver to remove the screws that keep the rollers in place. You may use a flat head or a star screwdriver.

Changing the rollers

Position the new roller in place. Use the screwdriver to lift the spring off the adjustment screw. Then fix the roller. Now tighten up the screw. Reattach the screen door.
