Electric heaters are a more and more popular choice for heating rooms and garages. Their functioning mechanism is realized through convection, or to put it simple: as the air that circulates around them is heated, new air takes its place and is also heated. It’s recommended to size an electric heater because of 2 reasons: if it is too small, it won’t be able to heat the entire area and if it is too big, it will consume unnecessary energy.

Follow these tips for obtaining amazing results

  1. First you want to determine the level of insulation in your garage. A big heater is recommended when your garage has more than 2 windows. If your garage is well insulated, the size of the heater will depend on the size of the garage.
  2. Measure the length and the width of your garage and then multiply them to obtain the number of square metres of the garage.
  3. One step more and you’re done! You will need the appropriate heater wattage for your garage. It’s recommended that for a well insulated garage, the heater wattage will be: 10 watts/1 square foot. For a non-insulated garage: 15-20 watts/1 square foot.


  • If your garage ceiling is higher than 8 feet, you will have to increase heater wattage by 25% for every 2 feet that exceed the 8 feet.
