Every cathedral ceiling looks better if it has wood beams, even if they are faux. They are very easy to install and they can be made from polyurethane, wood laminate or stainable wood. Tools and Materials Needed
Measurements Use a ladder and mark the spots where the beams will be installed. Calculate the angles of the ceiling slope. Now measure the dimensions of the beams that need to be installed. Measure the dimensions of the blocks. Attaching the wooden blocks Use a drill to make some holes in the wooden blocks. This should be done to prevent any cracks from appearing in them. Use some long screws and drive them through the block and then through the sheet rock. Then fix them to the ceiling structure. Marking the position of the blocks Use some blue tape and mark the position of every block. Measure the length of the ridge. Now cut the wood beam. It should fit into the ridge. Attaching the beams Use some long screws to attach the beams to the blocks. Use only one screw for each one of the beams. The head of the screws should be only slightly sinked in the beam. Filler If you want to fill the screw heads, you can use some caulk or colored filler. |
