You can always build the screen door of your choice with just a few materials and tools. You will need:
Measurements Measure the existing door frame to make sure that the new screen door will fit perfectly and that you will prevent friction between different parts. Board cutting You will need a Dremel or a precision saw to cut the boards that will hold the screen. Fix the boards with some clamps to make sure they won’t move when you cut them. Assembling the door For the door frame you will need some nails, and for some extra protection some wood glue. You should use the clamps in this process too, to keep the boards fixed after applying the glue and fixing them with nails. First add the glue and then fix the nails. Let the glue dry and then remove the clamps. Finishing the door Now it’s time to stain or paint the door. First sand any imperfections and then add a coat of primer. Use some water sealant too or a water resistant paint. Add thin coats of paint. Attaching the screen You will need some help with the screen as it needs to be stretched. Slide the screen into the created slots. You can use a staple gun to attach it to the sides. Start from one corner and follow one side. Additional hardware Install any handles or knobs. Also you will need to mark the places of the hinges and attach them. You need to install at least 3 hinges for more durability. |
