You can add value and appeal to your home by installing a gable roof. This type of roof protects your porch from snow, rain and also heat. It also provides space for relaxation.
In order to do this, you will need to get a special construction permit, to have some building plans and also receive a final inspection.

Porch trusses
You will need to position the porch trusses flat against the top plate of the porch’s end. Secure the truss closest to the house using nails. Nail the ridge board to the gable roof.
Valley rafters
Using the building plans, cut the valley rafters. Set the valley rafters and begin to the ridge board on the downwards tip of the roof to the porch trusses. Fasten the vertical jack rafters to the ridge board.
Installing the sheathing
First of all you will need to determine the width of the sheathing. Follow the same installation steps as on your porch’s gable roof. Measure the sheathing and then nail it to the roof trusses. Put the sheet end at the center points on the roof truss rafters.
Installing the roofing felt
Roll the roofing felt. Begin from the bottom and then attach it with roofing tacks. You will need to overlay every run by 5 inches. You can add metal flashings on the roof’s valleys, and also on the lowest edges. This will help prevent damage and leaks.
Installing shingles
You will need to find some shingles that match your existing shingles. Also begin at the bottom of the roof and work your way up. You can use a nail gun or s staple gun to fix the shingles to the roof.
