Aluminum roofing is one of the most durable and low maintenance roofing materials out there. It is also very easy to install. Heat losses can directly affect the efficiency of your aluminum roofing. This is why it’s best that the roof gets insulated. Some of the tools and materials that you will need are:
Cleaning Clean the underside of the roof, if it’s already installed. Light acid cleaners or solutions made from water and chlorine are especially great for the job. You can also use a commercial cleaner. Gaps and holes You will need to make sure that all the nails and screws in the roof are sealed to prevent any leaks. If they are not properly insulated, in time, you may have problems with the roof structure. Fiberglass bats Attach fiber glass bats at spaces after you have sealed your roof. You can use adhesive or just duct tape to hold them in place. You shouldn’t use nails as they can make holes in the aluminum roof. Foam insulation Next you will need to place the rigid foam insulation sheets adjacent to each other perpendicular to the plywood foundation. You can cover the under roof with these sheets. Fix them using nails or staples. Edges Use duct tape to seal the edges of the foam insulation. Seal all open edges. Fill out the spaces with light mortar or plaster. Spray foam There are going to be inaccessible areas like corners in your attic, that will be almost impossible to reach. You can use some spray foam to insulate these. Now all you need to do is finish the roof with a coat of paint. You can buy rigid insulating foam sheets with decorative designs and patterns, but at a higher cost. |
