Painting the tin roof

Paint will protect your tin roof from rust. The idea is to paint the roof with a primer that has at least 80% zinc. Zinc is an excellent solution for rust prevention. You will need to do some cleaning before. Remove all debris from the roof and you should also use a wire brush to remove as much as possible of the rusted areas. You can also power wash the roof with detergent.

Coating the roof

Another great solution for rust prevention are Elastomeric coatings. These are acrylic sealing systems. After they have set they will form an effective rust barrier on the roof. It’s also important that you clean the roof before applying the coating. Elastomeric coatings can also be found in many colors. A single layer of coating can last up to 5 years.

Galvanized roofing material

To create a galvanized metal, you can treat your roof with a liquefied zinc. The zinc will form a coating that will protect the tin from corrosion and rust. Thus you will protect your tin roof for many years. It also makes the roof more durable, protecting it even more from bad weather. It’s also cost effective as you won’t have to do any maintenance.
