If you want to remove a chimney of vent pipe from the roof, then you will obviously need to install some shingles over the hole. The tools and materials needed for the job are:

Nails
Roofing Tar
Hammer

Before you start the installation process you need to be sure that you wear some safety equipment and that you have some knowledge about the job. Talk to a local contractor.

Removing the old shingles

After removing the chimney pipe, there will surely be some damaged shingles around the area. You will need to remove those shingles to prevent any damage to your roof. Remove the nails too, or if you can’t nail them as deep as possible. You do not need to remove many shingles, just the ones that were overlapping the chimney.

Patching the hole

You will need to cover the hole. Place a piece of wood under the roof, in your attic and then cut a circular piece of wood to fill the hole. Secure it with screws.

Installing the new shingles

Now cover the are with some tar paper. This will create a water barrier and make a good base for the new shingles. Now install the shingle, starting at the top of the area you are patching. Use nails to fix them. Make sure that the area is leveled with the rest of the roof.
