Flat roofs are not as common on homeowner as they are on commercial buildings. Occasionally someone may want a flat roof for their home. Some may think shingling the roof would be a good idea, but it’s not. Here are the arguments.

Installation

Shingle installation is a difficult process and should be done only by professionals. Flat roof are constructed to walk on and give access to different ventilation systems. That is why flat roofs most of the times are covered with roll out roofing systems. They are applied using heat.

Lifespan

The covering of a flat roof will last for around 7 years. If you install shingles, then you may reduce this time. Using shingles, you may allow water to get trapped underneath, causing damage to the roof covering. On flat roofs, water has no place to go so the water will get trapped.
