How to build a cheap kitchen cabinetKitchen
If you want custom cabinet and also cheap ones, then the best choice is to build them on your own. Planning and preparation are the keys to the project’s success.
Some of the tools and materials that you will need are:
- Table Saw
- Jigsaw Router
- Wood Glue
- ½-inch Plywood
- 1×6 Lumber
- Flathead Screws
- Finishing Nails
- Wood Putty
- Drawer Slides
- Measuring Tape
Before you think of the design or start buying the materials, you will need to know the dimensions of the area where the cabinets will be installed.
Assembling the structure
You must think of a design for the cabinets. Use it to help you frame the components of the cabinetry. Use nails and glue to fix them properly together. If you are using glue, make sure you also use clamps to hold the pieces tight together.
You will need to make a face frame from 1×6 pieces of lumber. You will need 4 pieces of lumber for each of the cabinets, each for the sides. The face frame is mainly needed for structural support and for attaching the doors to it.
Use wood screws to attach the lumber pieces to the cabinets. To avoid splits in the wood, pre-drill the holes. Then use some wood putty to cover them.
Now it’s time to cut the doors. Also use plywood sheets. Remember to cut the doors with a little overhang to allow easy opening. Cut the doors and then use sand paper to make them smooth.
Painting the cabinets
Before you attach the shelves and doors you will need to add a few coats of stain to the cabinets. This will protect them from humidity and damage. Also stain the doors and shelves. Let the coating dry overnight.
After all the cabinets have been finished, you will need to use a stud finder in order to properly attach the cabinets to the walls. Make sure the cabinets are leveled before fixing them.
