Kitchen drain odor removal

Plumbing
Kitchen odors can be very unpleasant if you wanna have a nice lunch with your family. You should investigate the problem immediately because it can become even a bigger problem.

Tools and Materials Needed:

  • Caustic soda
  • White vinegar
  • Clean glass jar
  • Baking soda
  • Hot water
  • Lemon
  • Lemon juice
  • Salt
  • Drain snake
  • Lavender essential oil
  • Rubber gloves
  • Dowel or popsicle stick

Step1.

Removing accessories

To prevent any damage to the sink or to some decorations or objects in the sink, remove them and set them aside.

Step2. Basic cleaning

If the odor has appeared for only a couple of days, then only a quick clean should do the job. Pour into the drain 1/4 of a cup of baking soda and then pour some white vinegar too. The mixture will fizz up and thus you need to be sure it doesn’t spill out. Let the mixture take effect and then pour hot water into the drain.

Step3. Medium clean

If the odors persist then it’s time for some more powerful cleaning. Use 1/2 a cup of lemon juice and a 1/4 cup of salt with a few drops of lavender essential oil. You need to make sure that the salt is dissolved before pouring the mix into the drain. Leave it for about 20 minutes and then pour hot water into the drain.

Step4. Deep clean

In the event that the odors persist even longer, or has already been present for some time, then it means that there is something clogged in the drain. This calls for a drain snake. Use it to remove the clog and then pour some hot water. If this doesn’t either solve the problem than you really need the assistance of some powerful chemicals. In a large glass jar dissolve some caustic soda in accordance with the instructions. Be careful to use rubber gloves. Pour it into the drain and let it dissolve the clog as much as the instructions say. Pour some hot water in the drain after this.

Step5. Prevention

To prevent any odors or clogs from the sink, use a sink plughole strainer to prevent food or any other objects from getting into the sink.
