Fungal diseases

Although roses are a little bit difficult to grow and care for, their flowers, fragrance and beauty are all worth the effort. Like all plants, roses can also be affected by diseases and pests. One of these diseases is the fungal disease, which can be identified by the black spots that appear on the leaves and flowers of the roses.

Although this fungal disease can be very harmful for the plant, it can be treated very easily. Here are a few tips on how to do that:

  • the reason why black spots appear on roses is because of the high humidity level. When you water the plant, it’s very important to do it from below the foliage.
  • the best time to water any plant is in the morning, because it will have time to dry during the day.
  • it’s also important to remove the fallen leaves from the base of the plant, especially if they have black spots. If the water touches them and the splashes back up onto other leaves, it can transmit the disease.
  • if your plant has been seriously affected by the disease, it’s best to prune the affected areas.
  • one home made remedy for black spots is a solution made from warm water and baking soda. Mix one teaspoon of baking soda and one liter of warm water and spray the solution on the plant, only in the morning.
