Vapor barrier installation

Vapor barrier represent a great way of protecting your home from moisture. When you will be installing the vapor barrier, you will need to make a few cuts in order to fit it on the surface of your walls or floors. Here’s how you can do this, without ruining it.

Some of the tools and materials that you will need are:

  • Razor knife
  • Plastic moisture barrier
  • Tape measure
  • Adhesive

First of all you will need to apply some mastic over the walls or floors and then apply the barrier over it. Be careful to spread it evenly, without creating creases into the walls. The vapor barrier sheet needs to be at least 4 inches larger than the area covered with mastic.

Now you will need to make some cuts. Make the cuts using a razor knife. Trim the barrier around ducts, outlets, switches, and any other objects that cannot be removed from the walls or floors. After you have made the cuts, take the edges and apply a little adhesive on them and press them to the walls/floors. You should use spray adhesive.
