Water distillation

Distillation is one of the oldest and most effective water treatments. Although it isn’t as effective as modern purification systems, it can remove bacteria, inorganic and organic compounds.

This is only a temporary solution for your water contamination problem.

For a long therm solution, use a purification system. Distillation relies on evaporation in order to clean water. The distillation system uses a few pipes to evaporate and cool down the water. Organism from the water do not evaporate with the water.

Distillation is most effective when trying to remove iron and lead and also nitrates. It also makes the water less hard. Viruses and bacteria are killed when boiled. It all depends on the boiling points of the contaminants. For example, organic compounds that have a lower boiling point than water, will be vaporized along with the water, and they will not be removed.

The system is quite simple and uses evaporation and condensation. It consists of a boiling chamber and condensing coils, where the water is cooled and then stored in another tank.

The systems can differ in size, depending on the quantity of water they can handle. They have a small volume of only 3 to 11 gallons of water per day.

Operation, maintenance and costs

The system will need maintenance. The contaminants will need removed from the boiling chamber once in a while. Calcium and magnesium will get hard in time so they will need removed more often.

The costs are generally higher than those of other purification systems. The system also removes oxygen and some trace metals from the water.
