What to consider before buying an air conditioner

Even though you may think that air conditioner units aren’t as complicated, there are a few important things that you need to consider before going to a shop and actually buying the unit.

Types of units

First of all you need to think about the types of air conditioner units. There two kind of room air conditioners:

  1. window air conditioners: these units are the most economical and are very easy to use and install.
The unit is mostly outside the room and this means that you won’t be bothered by the noise. The single drawback is that they don’t have as much power as a normal wall-mounted air conditioner.
  2. wall-mounted air conditioners: these are more stylish and are ideal for houses where you don’t want to damage the look. These units are also more powerful, but also more expensive and may require some renovation after the installation.

Coverage area

Another important thing that you need to consider is the size of the AC unit. Calculate the square footage of the rooms and then see what’s the best size of the air conditioner unit. The power of these units is measured in BTUs and the more, the bigger the area they can cover. Ask the local sales expert about the size perfect for your home.

Energy efficiency is also important. Check to see the energy rating of the AC unit. Look for the EER rating and the Energy Star rating. A high EER means a high efficiency. This means less money spent on energy.

You should also think about the size of the unit, and if it fits in the space of your desire. Also see if there are any objects that can interfere with the air circulation. Electrical connections are also important. It’s better that you don’t use extension cords for outlets as they can get hot, because of the energy use.

Like any other appliance, air conditioner units also need some maintenance in order to work properly.
