Installing a radiant heat barrier

Radiant heat barriers are great for keeping your house cooler or warmer, and will surely help you cut some costs with energy.

These barriers assure that the temperature inside is lower in the summer, and higher in the winter.

Preparing

First of all think about the temperatures outside.

You do not want to work in an attic where the temperature is very high. It will create a high discomfort. Choose a cool day.

You will then need to clean the attic for debris and dust and also remove any objects stored. Then measure the area and calculate the square footage.

Floor boards

You have to install some boards on the floor before installing the barriers. These boards will be placed on the joists and need to be strong enough to support your weight. The area should be big enough to allow you to reach all the sides of the attic. You can use plywood sheets for this step.

Fixing the solar boards

Solar boards are insulating materials that are covered in reflective foil materials. This will make sure that there isn’t any heat exchange, between the environment and your attic.

Securely fix the boards using a staple gun. Make sure that the staples are 3 inches one from another.

Finishing

Fill the gaps and edges between the corners with some caulk.
