Installing attic soffit vents
Soffit vents are the best way to maintain a proper attic ventilation. They are also known as under-eave vents and are great for reducing the temperature of the air in your attic. This is a simple installation process and you can do it on your own.
Materials Needed
- Soffit Vents
- Safety goggles or mask
- Safety gloves
- Screws and Drill
- Saw
- Caulk
Preparing
First of all you will need to remove any insulation from the area where the soffit will be installed. Choose a place where the vents are free of boards, joists. Then pick the soffit. There are 3 main materials from which it is made: aluminum, plastic and wood.
Holes
Now you can start cutting the holes. Measure the vent and then making the hole. It needs to be a little smaller then the vent so that the edges of the attic and of the vent should be touching each other. Trace the lines, and make some holes in the corners and on the edges of the squares. Use a saw and cut the area.
Installing the vents
Mount a screw in each of the corners of the vent. Then add additional screws on the sides. Tighten them.
Finishing
To finish the system, place some caulk around the edges of the vents. This will prevent drafts that can result in heat loss.
