Installing a blown flat roof insulation
This process may seem a little complicated, but with the right tools it will be more simple than you think. You will need a few tools, but fortunately these can be found at your local improvement store. They can also be rented.
Tools and Materials Needed
- Blown insulation
- Insulation blower
- Spackle
- Spackling knife
- Expanding foam sealer
- Drill
- Hole saw bit
- Stud finder
- Tape measure
- Serrated knife
Studs
Locating the studs is important as you will need to drill a hole between them, to access the inside of the ceiling.
Drilling holes
Now you will need to make a hole between each two studs. The hole needs to be big enough so that the hose of the blower fits. You can use either a hole saw or a hole cutting drill bit.
The insulation
You will need some help at this point. You will direct the insulation in the ceiling, and the other person will need to feed the blower with insulation. The insulation needs to be dense enough for a proper insulation. This is why it’s important that when you’ve finished 1/4 of the area, the insulation is 1/4 used.
Sealing the holes
You can seal the holes with an expanding foam sealer. Let the foam dry and then use a knife to cut the excess. Cut the foam at the same level with the ceiling.
Finishing the ceiling
Sand the areas where the holes were made, and then use a primer sealer. paint the patches with the same color as the ceiling.
