Identify extent
Before starting to remove the stains from the metal furniture, it’s best that you take a look on all the surfaces and see if there are any more stains. This should help you choose the cleaning method.
Minor stains
Minor rust stains are quite easy to remove. Although you can buy many rust removal solutions, they are very toxic and you will need to wear protective equipment. Instead of doing this, you can use some household products and make a mixture of baking soda and white vinegar. Then rub the rusted spots with a cloth dampened in the mixture. This should do the work. You can also use lemon juice for a better effect.
Deeper stains
If you cannot remove the rust stains with the first method, you should try using a mixture of soda crystals. Also, apply some tomato ketchup on the surface. Let the mixture affect the spot for about an hour. Then wipe it off with a clean rag.
Severe stains
For severe stains, you will firstly need to remove the excess stain with a wire brush or with a sandpaper. Then use Borax and mix it with hydrogen peroxide. You will create a paste that you can put on the stain. Let it there for an hour.
Upholstery
If upholstery is affected too, use some lemon juice on the fabric. Let it action for half an hour. Use a dampened cloth to clean the rust and then use dry cloth to remove the excess water.
