Removing mildew from carpets
Carpet mildew is a real problem as it can spread to other fabric objects. Here’s how you can get read of the mildew and also prevent it from spreading.
Tools and materials:
- Sponge
- Washcloth
- Commercial carpet cleaner
- Dishwashing detergent
- Laundry detergent
- Electric fan
- Vacuum cleaner
- Wet/dry vac
- Warm water
- Empty spray bottle
Preparing the carpet
Before you start removing the mildew from your carpet, there are some things that you need to do.
Cleaning solution
Now it’s time to prepare the cleaning solution. Mix a cup of warm water with half a spoon of dish washing detergent. You can use any type of detergent. Put the solution in a spray bottle.
Applying the solution
Spray the solution on the selected spot. Let it is for at least 10-15 minutes. Use a sponge or washcloth to vigorously wipe any mildew that is on the carpet. After removing all the mildew, use some war water and rinse the spot. Use paper towels to dry the spot faster.
Ammonia
The ammonia solution is used for avoiding mildew from spreading or growing back. Use one cup of warm water and two spoons of ammonia. Put the solution into a spray bottle. Spray the solution on the affected areas, or you can spray it on a sponge. Then use the sponge to blot it onto the carpet.
