Removing mold and mildew from tight spaces

Black mold and mildew usually appear on soaked wood, ceiling tiles, wall paneling, and also cardboard and cotton items. Moisture is the main cause for mildew formations. This fungi deposits can cause health problems so it’s best to remove them immediately.

The places where they form are usually shaded and hard to reach. There are methods, though, to remove them efficiently.

  • Vinegar
  • 2 Spray Bottles
  • Warm Water
  • Bucket

Safety precautions

It’s important that you always wear a mask and rubber gloves when you are cleaning mildew. Not only the mildew is dangerous for your respiratory system, but also the fumes from the cleaning products.

Preparing the solution

Mix one part of vinegar and one part of water in a clean recipient. Pour the mixture in a spray bottle and then apply the solution on the affected areas. Leave it to sit for a few minutes.

You can also use bleach to solve the problem. Put one part bleach and 3-4 part water in a recipient and mix them well. Then also use a spray bottle and apply the solution to the affected area. Be sure that the room is well ventilated as chlorine bleach has toxic fumes that are dangerous for your health.

Cleaning the area

Use warm water and a sponge or a scrubbing brush to wash the area. Scrub the mildew off the surface. If this doesn’t solve the problem, you can use a hand-held steamer. This can reach any tight space without the smallest problem.

Reapply some bleach solution and let it sit. Wipe the area and see if the mildew is still there.
