How to replace latches
If you want to replace latches, you should know that there are 4 types of mechanisms: plain latches, dead, dead bolt and adjustable latches.
Plaint latches are used for interior doors. This mechanisms doesn’t allow the door to be locked.

Purchase set
The set needs to be appropriate for your door. If you have an interior door that doesn’t need to be locked, you can use a plain latch. Dead latches are good if you have some important things into your room. Think about how you’ll be using the room and then buy the latch.
Removing the existing latch
Use a screwdriver to remove the screws that fix the side plate. This plate holds the set in place. Also remove all the other screws that hold the set in the door hole. See if the old latch set is still working or if it can be repaired. Keep it safe for future use.
Replacing the latch
Just align the set with the hole and slide it in. it’s a backwards process of the set removal. Screw the set inside the hole and then test it. Then place the plate on the side and put the screws back.
Testing the set
Open and close the door and then lock it and unlock it. Make sure that the locking system work when the door is closed too.
