Wood fence panels

If you can handle building a wood fence panel, then you can save some money on labor costs. Some help would be necessary because there are tasks, like setting the fence panels and installing the fence posts, which cannot be accomplished by yourself. When the posts are done, the whole fence can be ready in just an afternoon.

The necessary tools and materials:

  • Post hole digger
  • Hammer
  • Nails or screws
  • Concrete mix
  • Wooden stakes
  • Fencing and wood posts
  • Concrete trowel

Making the plan

If you are using a fencing system, you’ll see that they all have the same theories for constructing a fence, but materials and construction methods may be slightly different. Building a fencing system with fencing panels can be an easy job. The posts are covered with wood in order to protect them from rot. Before choosing the fence you want, it’s better to think seriously what function it will have. It may need to be a barrier for animals or small children, to offer some privacy or any other function you’ll want to have. Based on these things you can make a plan and see what amount of money you need or how much time it will be necessary to maintain it. Using wood as a primary material can be cheap at first but maintaining it over time can cost some money. You’ll also have expenditures with painting and staining.

Setting the fence posts

Putting the posts in a correct position will have a great impact over the look of the
fence. You need to be patient and let the concrete for the posts harden completely until you attach the fence. Between the fence posts should be a space of 6 to 8 feet on center and one third of each post has to be underground. Before you start digging the holes with a post hole digger, you have to make a mark on each location for the posts. After that, you have to prepare the concrete using the instructions and finally fill in the holes with it, making sure that the posts are in the right position. When the hole is filled, you have to use a trowel to put some concrete around the pole so that water damage will be avoided. In the end, some soil is needed to pack the entire area around the post.

Attaching the panels

When you attach the wood from the metal polls you have to use some fencing clips. When it’s time to install the panels, you need to put someone to hold them still and you need to place the clips around the metal pole together with one of the vertical supports, which can be found on the panel. Use screws to nail them into place and then paint, stain or seal the wood to keep it safe from weathering.
