How to grow beautiful roses

Planing and learning how to grow roses is very important for developing a beautiful garden. Roses are quite easy to grow, but they will need a lot of attention.

The first thing that you need to do is choose a perfect spot for them, because they need at least 5 hours of sunlight per day.

The spot also needs to be sheltered from harsh winds.

Another important aspect is the soil. It needs to be rich, but it also needs to have good drainage. You can see if a spot has good drainage if water doesn’t pool after it rains.

Good drainage can be achieved by using a mixture of compost, soil, and sand. It’s especially important to add compost and sand in areas where the soil is made out of clay.

Now it’s time to choose the type of roses you want to plant. Because there are so many types of roses, you can choose almost any color and shape you want, from miniature roses, to climbing ones and bushes.

One of the most common varieties is the Apothecary’s Rose, from the Gallicas family. Other varieties are the Cardinal de Richelieu with burgundy colored flowers and super shapes.

If you want pink roses, you can choose Duchesse de Rohan, a Victorian hybrid.

You can also find climbing roses. These can be trained to climb on a trellis, fence or on other supports. Miniature roses are great to be planted in hanging baskets.

When it comes to the planting, always remember that it’s best to dig a hole twice as larger as needed. This will loosen the soil. The perfect planting time is in the spring.

At the bottom of the hole, it’s best to make a mound and spread the roots of the roses on it. Then fill the hole with soil and remember to water it.

Too much water can damage the roses, so water the roses only once a day, or once on two days. The best time to water the roses is in the morning.

Roses will need protection during the winter days. Add a layer of mulch at the base of the rose and do not water them.

Besides all there, roses will need to be pruned. Pruning helps the plant to develop new, richer blooms. The best time to do this is in the spring. Remove all dead leaves, twigs and shape the roses. You can off 1/3 of the bush, without damaging it.
