Preparing rose beds

In order to grow beautiful roses in your garden, you will need to understand a few things. First of all you need to know what roses like, and then how you can prepare the soil for planting them. You need to plan ahead the rose planting thus making your job much easier when it will come to caring for them.

Soil

First of all you need to know what type of soil you need to prepare for the roses. Also see what type of soil you have: clay, sandy or loamy. This will help you to know what you need to add in order for the soil to become fertile. Does the soil drain well, or does it holds water? This will influence the watering habits. You should buy some fertilizers to add the necessary nutrients for the plants.

Fertilizing the soil

Buy a pH kit and determine the soil’s pH. It needs to be of around 6.5, thus ensuring the perfect conditions. It’s also important to have an aerated soil, so make sure you do that. Add organic fertilizers like manure grass clippings and tree trimmings. Magnesium Sulphate, fish emulsion and cow manure are perfect for fertilizing the soil. To control seeds and the moisture level, add a layer of mulch around the plants.

If you need some information about your plants, go to your local gardening center and ask the professionals. If you do not have productive soil, then you should consider planting the roses in large pots.
