Tips to grow Crepe Myrtles trees
Native from China, the Crepe Myrtle tree has become very popular throughout the world, especially in the U.S.A.
One of the reasons that people love this tree is that it blooms for a long period of time during a year. If the conditions are proper, the tree may bloom for more than half a year continually. An unusual fact is that their bark has the tendency to peel off in little sections. The seeds appear the following year, after the flowers have died. Although they require little maintenance, the Crepe Myrtle trees have some natural enemies such as excessive dampness and aphids.
How to grow it:
- Plant your Crepe Myrtle tree in a well drained soil, rich in nutrients. Apply a very good fertilizer; use it according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- If you want your Crepe Myrtle to grow as a small tree, you have to get rid of any sprout that appears on the trunk.
- Apply a soapy solution on the tree’s leaves to remove aphids. These pests are not a danger for the tree by themselves; they leave a sticky trace that can shelter many types of fungus or mold. These can have an anesthetic aspect or can even harm your Crepe Myrtle tree.
- After you have planted your Crepe Myrtle tree, add a lot of water. It can bear drought very well only after it has taken roots.
- In the autumn, when the tree has lost all the leaves, cut the branches to keep its shape the following year.
