Rare fruit trees from China

Chinese fruit trees have become very popular in certain parts of theUnited States of America. Besides the fact that they produce very tasty fruits that are expensive in our markets, they can also embellish a landscape. Growing a few Chinese trees in your yard allows you to have free fruits for you and your family, thus saving a lot of money.

The Lychee tree

The Lychee tree or litchi is a tall tree, having a round and dense shape. Native to Southern and Southeastern China, the tree can grow up to about 40 feet tall. The Lychee tree can be planted on almost any soil; it doesn`t thrive at the sea level or in areas where it can freeze during winter. The Lychee trees are planted in areas of Florida and California. They can also be found in Hawaii, but only in private yards. Although Lychee trees are some kind of resistant, one can harm them while using lawnmowers or weed cutters. The anthracnose can also affect the health of the Lychee. The lack of water is not a very big problem for the tree, but only up to a point. The color of the Lychee fruits can vary from red to brown. The white pulp covers the seed that is not good for eating.

The Longan tree

Native to Szechuan, Guangxi as well as Guangdong and Fujian, the Longan tree belongs to the Sapindaceae family. It does not do well in areas where it can freeze, but it is more resistant than Lychee. Longan trees have the same height as the Lychee, but they are not very popular. The color of the fruits is brown, with a white pulp and a big seed. Sandy or loamy soils can make the Longan tree thrive. As compared to the Lychee, Longan tree produces fruits later. The Longan has much in common with a Malaysian tree, the rambutan.

The Jujube tree

Also known as Chinese date, the Jujube tree is planted in Florida and Southwestern United States of America. It tolerates drought very well and it is not susceptible to many pests. Growing up to 40 feet long, Jujube trees love soils with good drainage and hot areas. The fruits are very tasty, although little.  They may be eaten fresh or added to different kind of sweets.

 The Loquat tree

The Loquat tree is very popular in the United States. It is planted to embellish the landscapes in parks or along the streets. Native to Southwestern China, Eriobotrya Japonica is a tall tree with green and elongated circle leaves. This variety of  Loquat tree produces oval fruits having a yellow or orange color.  One can find almost 10 seeds inside the fleshy pulp. Longan trees have a high resistance to frost and can thrive to about 7,000 feet. The fruits can be eaten fresh or during time, if cooked. The health of Loquat trees is threatened by aphids, birds and Caribbean fruit fly or scale. California and Florida are the basic producers of Loquat fruits in USA
