Growing hydroponic strawberries

A happy strawberry needs 5 to 6 hours of direct light. You can use growing lights in order to fulfill their needs. Usually, this fruit grows a bit suspended, so you may have to incline the growing bed towards the hydroponic tank. The ideal set up for strawberries is represented by a storage unit surrounded by glass. If you do not have the means to allow this to happen, you can move around the unit in order to face the proper amount of light.

Planting the seeds is a crucial thing. This is due to the fact that you will have to simulate what happens in winter with the seeds. Experts recommend placing the seeds inside a refrigerator for 4 to 5 months. After this period you can move them in the growing media and allow the rooting process to begin.

The second thing you should take care of is represented by the roots. Those need the proper levels of moisture. Avoid drowning them in water because you will end up killing the plant. You can use perlite on top of which you should set up a plastic layer. This should be removed when the roots start to appear.

The perfect pH level for strawberries is represented by a value that goes between 5.8 and 6.2. Furthermore, you need to mix carefully the nutrients and expose the roots as little as possible. Submerging them in water won`t do the job.

An interesting thing that happens in the growing process of a strawberry is the pollination process. In nature, this is done by insects which are responsible for spreading the pollen. In a hydroponic set up you just simply have to shake the flower`s center in order to determine the pollen to fly around.

This being said you will need some items for growing hydroponic strawberries: a pH meter, nutrients, plastic coverings, perlite and a refrigerating system.
