Install a floor furnace
If you plan to install a floor furnace, then you should consider a few things, among which comes safety. You will deal with electrical components and to prevent any accidents follow the right instructions. Here are the tools and materials that you will need:
- Radiant Heat Mesh
- 4×4-inch Electrical Box
- Water Resistant Caulk and Caulk Gun
- Drill
- Scissors
- Drywall Saw
- Trowel
- Screwdriver
- Thin-set Cement
- Large Bucket
- Wire Strippers
- Backer Boards and Screws
Preparing for the project
First of all you will need to prepare the area for the installation.
Now install a 1/4 inch backer board on the flooring with special backer board screws. Apply the mesh tape to the seams and then a thin layer of thin-set cement along the joints of the backer board. To prevent water leaks, seal them with caulk.
Electrical box
Roll the mesh over the floor and cut it to fit the area on the floor. Be careful not to cut the wires that are encased with the mesh. Glue the mesh down to the floor using some cement or staples.
Now cut a small hole using a drywall saw at the baseboard. The mesh wires need to go through this. Then cut another hole near a stud within the wall. Mount the electrical box to connect the heat to the power source. Turn off the power while you’re working with the wires.
Finishing the installation
Connect the heater to the power source. Test it and then apply the rest of the flooring. Apply a thin set over the mesh wires. Then let the thin set dry and install the rest of the flooring.
