Installing a central heating thermostat
A thermostat is a very important part of the heating system. This device will shut down the heating system whenever the temperature is good and it will start it again when it cools down. It will help you save money on energy and it will also extend the life of your heating system.
- A thermostat compatible with your heating system
- Anchors
- Drill
- Screws
- Screwdriver
- Wire strippers
Precautions
Make sure that the heating system is powered off before you begin the installation. If your heating system was pre-installed, then you should find the wires from the system that are designed to be connected to the thermostat. Consult the manual before you begin the installation.
Back plate
This is the structure where the thermostat is plugged in. Use a drill to install the back plate on the wall. Make some holes and then deploy anchors that will hold the plate in place. Screw the plate after you have positioned the wires.
Installation
The user manual is a great way to make sure that the job is done properly. Use wire strippers to cut the insulation from the wires and then you need to connect them to their terminals. If the connections aren’t done properly then the entire system may result in a malfunction. Plug the thermostat in place after fixing the wires.
Finishing up
Turn the power on again and then check if the thermostat works. If you see it does not function properly then you should call a professional. Power off the system if you see any serious problems.
