Staircase conversion: From straight to curved
If you are renovating your home and you need free more space around your straight staircase, then the solution can be the conversion to a curved staircase. To do this, you will need to do a few things.
Some of the tools and materials that you will need are:
- Hammer
- Level
- Tape Measure
- Pencil
- Jig Saw
- Wood
- Wood Screws
- Drill with Drill Bits
Measurements
First of all you will need to do some measurements.
Demolition
First of all you will need to remove the treads, steps and portion of the railing. You should use a jig saw and a hammer. Try to preserve as many usable pieces as you can, because you can use them for the curved staircase.
Dogleg risers
First of all make some cuts in the wood to create the risers. Make the construction easier by keeping a simple angle. If you do not have enough risers, make some new ones.
Assembling the stairs
You will need to install the treads so that they should match the angle of the turn. Place the risers, steps and treads. Use nails or screws to fix them all together.
Enclosing the staircase
You can use drywall to do this. It’s the simplest method.
Remember to keep the steps leveled and also the measurements of the risers and treads conformed to the local building codes.
When demolishing the old staircase, make sure you preserve as much material as possible. This can save you a lot of money.
