Fixing a clogged bathtub drain
If you find that the bathtub drain is clogged, don’t run to the phone and call a plumber. These things are very easy to handle and you can do them by yourself. All you need is some tools and patience.Tools You’ll Need
- Plunger
- Hand auger
- Screwdriver
- Wet rag
- Commercial drain-unclogger
Step1. Remove the bathtub drain assembly
All you need for this job is a screwdriver. Just unscrew the drain cover and remove it. Carefully pull the assembly out of the hole.
If you can see the clog, try to remove it and then clean the drain assembly too. Install it back. If the clog isn’t at the surface then follow the next step.
Step2. Plunging
To ensure maximum pressure on the clog, be sure to cover the overflow drain with a wet rag. Then, add some water in the bathtub and begin the plunging. Test to see if you unclogged the drain. If not, go to the next step.
Step3. Using the hand auger
Unlike a plunger, this handy tool fixes clogs by extracting their source as opposed to driving it downward. Push the auger inside the drain and keep pushing it until you feel that it has reached the clog.
Try and rotate it until you feel that is has removed the clog. Put some water in the bathtub and then see if this has solved the problem. If not, then go to the next step.
Step4. Try a commercial drain unclogger
If none of the solutions above offer some results, than this is your best chance. The thing about these substances is that they should be used in large quantities, because they contain powerful chemicals that can eat through your bathroom pipes.
