About asphalt shingle roofs

Asphalt shingles are very popular among roofing materials, mainly because they are very cheap and easy to install. You can find two types of asphalt shingles, organic and fiberglass.

Organic shingles

Although their name says they are organic, they are not very environmental friendly.

They are usually made from felt paper and embedded asphalt. Then the mix is coated with a layer of adhesive. Asphalt shingles are prone to algae infestation, and that’s why sometimes copper is added to the mixture.

Fiberglass shingles

These shingles are reinforced with fiberglass coated with a resin made from formaldehyde. They are fireproof and also they are much lighter than organic shingles. Organic shingles will stand better in powerful winds then fiberglass shingles.
