About flat roof ventilation
There are some special types of flat roof vents. They need to be specially designed, to let the air out and keep the water out. There are a few things that you shouldn’t do when you install flat roof vents.
Flat roof vent types
You will need to know what is the best flat roof vent type for your roof. Mushroom vents and turbine vents are the most popular. The turbine vent is shaped like a ball, made of metal and with angled slashes. It acts like a windmill powdered, of course, by wind. This will bring fresh air inside your home and it will also remove the bad air. The mushroom vent is a tubular structure and it a larger top, looking like a mushroom.
Some of the manufacturers and installers like to use flashing with all vents. Some may need it or not. After you have chosen the right vents for your roof, ask the manufacturer if they need flashing.
If your roof is covered with shingles, you will need to replace them and fix them in such a way to avoid having water infiltrations. Also seal the area near the vent with some tar or caulk.
If you have decided to install roof vents on your flat roof, then make sure that they are specially designed for flat roofs. Installing vents for slanted roofs will lead to problems like water leaks and roof damage.
