Fixing a leak on an asphalt roof

First of all you will need to find the source of the leak. You can use a drywall saw and remove the affected area from your ceiling. Cut it in a square so that you can patch it easier. Dry the area. Then you can use some nails to mark the area. Hammer them in the roof and then go outside to identify the place. You can also ask someone to go on the roof and identify the area.

You will need to find out if there’s anything wrong with your roof. Wait until the roof is dry and then go up. It can be very slippery and you want to avoid any accidents. First of all check the areas near the ventilation shafts, valleys, intersection points. If you cannot find out the affected area of the source, then you should call a professional.
if you have a shingle asphalt roof, then you should identify the damaged shingle or shingles. Then remove the shingles around those damaged. Be careful with them as you don’t want to damage them. Remove the damaged shingles. Scape away any old roofing cement. Replace the shingles and reattach the others.
