How do roof gutters work?

A roof gutter’s main role is to channel the water away from your home. If you do not have gutters installed, then the water can damage not only your roof, but also your windows, and the house foundation.

How it works

They are built onto the overhang of a roof and direct water toward downspouts.

These downspouts are placed usually in areas where is safe for the water to be collected. The gutters need to be very sturdy and also big enough to support the wight of the water and also the force of falling snow. Also they need to be wide enough for debris to pass.

Debris

Debris are the worst enemy of gutters. Whenever there is a storm, leaves, twigs, and other debris can get clogged in the roof gutter, preventing water from being drained from the roof. This can lead to water damage.

Gutter maintenance

You can install some gutter guards. These will keep larger debris, like twigs, out of the gutters, keeping them clog-free. Small debris can still seep through but they will be eliminated with the water. Cleaning is a very important thing to do in order to keep your roof and house protected from water damage.
