Types of roof materials
Roofing materials depend a lot on the climate and location. In temperate climate you can use clay tile roofs, but in colder regions you may need to use metal or slate roofs.

These are the most popular roofing materials.
Clay tiles
Clay tiles are very durable and will last tens of years. They won’t burn and are resistant to mold and decay. They are used in warmer regions. The main disadvantages are the high costs and that the tiles are very heavy. A square can cost up to $150-400.
Slate roof
This materials is very long lasting. They can last even 100 years. It is also extremely heavy and very expensive. A square can cost up to $1000. But because it’s a lifetime investment, it’s worth the money.
Wooden shingles
Wooden shingles are usually made from cedar as it is rot and decay resistant. They can be hand sawn and tapered shingles, called shakes, and a shingle that is sawn. A square can cost up to $100.
Metal roofs
Metal roofs were very popular in the 1700s. They were made out of copper, zinc and lead. They had a very long lifespan, but they were very expensive. Nowadays you can install Galvanized or Gavalume Steel roofs. The average costs for a square are $4-5 per square. They are very easy to install. They are fire resistant and they do not rot or decay.
