Air conditioner maintenanceAn air conditioner service or check-up can cost you a lot of money. This is why you should try to avoid these maintenance services. You can do this by trying to do some easy check-up jobs.
You will only need some simple materials:
- Screw driver
- Garden hose
- Fin comb
- Dust Brush
- Motor oil
Step1. Switch off the power.
Switch off the electricity to the air conditioner, and locate the capacitor. You can easily do this by following the instructions in the users manual.
Step2. Clean the condenser and oil the fan motor.
Clean the condenser using a brush. This will surely be full of dust. This is an important job, if you want to avoid any damage to the fans. A repair service will cost you more than 500-600$. Remove the cover grille and detach the setscrew that contain the fan. Take away the fan to gain access to the oil ports. Lubricate the fan motor.
Step3. Clean the condenser coils.
You can clean the coils with a garden hose. Remove the guard before spraying the inside unit. This will prevent the accumulation of wet debris in the fins. Be sure to check if the fins are bent. If so, then use a fin comb to straighten them.
Step4. Recycling of the refrigerant.
You should hire an expert to replace the refrigerant. Be careful not to dispose gases in the atmosphere. If the filter is damaged, then replace it.
Step5. Servicing of air-conditioner filters.
This is one of the most important components of the air conditioner system. This cleans the air that you breath in your home. Switch off the power before cleaning it.
First remove the case that encompasses the filter. Then remove it and clean it with a piece of cloth. After this wash it with soap and water. Ensure that the filter is dried up completely before putting it back.
Step6. Replacement of filter.
Avoid using filters that are worn out. Purchase a plastic electrostatic mesh filter from a local shop. This will cost you around $7. Cut the new filter with a pair of scissors. Rinse it with clean water, and then allow it to dry off completely. You can then install the filter.
Step7. Servicing of ducts.
You can also clean the air ducts with a vacuum cleaner. This will help remove any dust or debris that get sucked in those.
Step8. Routine check ups.
Check various parts such as fuses, breakers and the thermostat. Ensure that all connections are in place.
