Aquaponics

Jade perch grows in flowing rivers that have a diversity of saline levels and temperature. It is a perfect species to grow in a recirculating system. You should know that they do not do well with coldness.

This means you should offer them higher temperatures. Furthermore, you cannot grow them in an outside pond. You need to use a tank indoors to keep them happy. Also, it is better to note that they need to be grown in small groups due to the fact that they need qualitative water. They have a high metabolic rate, which means you should constantly analyze what goes on with and in the water.

The Jade Perch eats almost everything. Worms, bugs, snails, algae or beans, it does not matter for them. This also means that they stop feeding when you stop giving food. So, you should properly decide the amount of food you offer in order to keep them happy.

Here are some pros of growing jade perch in an aquaponic system:

– as already noted, this fish species is known for its concentration of omega-3. Omega-3 is the most benefic fat acid for our organism.

– the jade perch is known for its amount of omega-3 oil which is said to be 100 times much more than in other food sources.

– it is known for its small levels of cholesterol and for its with flesh.

If you are planning to set up an aquaponic system and start growing jade perch, you should know that:

  1. It enjoys a temperature that is placed between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius.
  2. It needs increased levels of oxygen due to the warmth of the water. This means you need to take special care of the aeration methods.
  3. Jade perch does not evolve if the temperature drops under 20 degrees Celsius.
  4. If the temperature is less than 16 degrees Celsius, they will stop feeding and as a result they will die.
  5. They grow fast if you provide them the optimal condition. This means you will have to replenish your stock pretty often.
  6. They are extremely competitive, so you will have to make sure you give them enough food.

Bottom line, the jade perch is perfect for an aquaponic system. They need special care that regards the water quality and temperature. But if those needs are accomplished, they tend to grow fast and without any trouble. For starters, the jade perch can be the perfect option, but keep in mind that you will be forced to place the system somewhere inside. There are few regions ( like the tropical ones) that suit their heating requirements, but you can try to grow them in an outside pond only during the summer. This can work because they have a high growing rate and by the end of the summer they will be ready for harvest.
