Roses are maybe the most common and most popular flower in the world. It has a beautiful look and fragrance, making it perfect for every home and garden. If you want to enhance the look of your garden with roses, then you can grow your own rose bushes, directly from seeds or from clippings.
Some of the tools and materials that you will need are:
- Rose bush
- Sharp grafting knife
- Clear Vase
- Small pot
How to get rose clippings
You can get a clipping directly from your existing roses. To do this you will need a grafting knife. Cut the stem in a straight line and remove all the leaves. The clipping must be at least 6 inches long.
Growing the clipping
In order to grow the clipping for planting, you will need to put it in a vase with water.Place the vase in a warm environment that will stimulate the growing of roots. You will need to keep the clipping in the vase for at least 4 weeks, and only after that some small roots will start growing. It’s best to change the water with fresh one every few days.
Moving the clipping to a pot
You will know it’s time to move the rose in a pot when the roots have reached 4 inches in length. The pot needs to be small and equipped with small drainage holes. Without the proper drainage, the clipping can rot. Use compost and sand to prepare the pot soil.
It’s also important where you place the pot. If you have kept the clipping in a shaded room, then it’s best not to expose it directly to the sun, but move it into a more sunny area and after a week move it into your garden.
Caring for the rose
What you will need to do to keep the plant healthy is water it frequently. When leaves will start to grow, then it means that you can move the plant into your garden.
Transplanting the roses
As we said before, when the clipping starts growing leaves you can move it into your garden. You can wait for a rose to grow even for 4 months, if you took the clipping in the spring. After you transplant them in your garden it’s important to care for them.
