Planning the bay roof

Of course, you will need to install the bay window before you start installing the roof. Consult someone with experience and also consult the plans. After the bay window has been installed, it’s time to get started on the roof job.

Planning the roof

The original bay window plans need to include a roof plan. The roof is usually a hip one, constructed at 45 degree angles. For creating the plans, you can use an online framing calculator. All you need to do is write the measurements of the roof, and then the calculator will give you a chart with the angles and lengths for the rafters.

Building the frame

Now you can begin constructing the frame. Take a 2×6 ledger board and then nail it onto the back wall. To fix it even more securely, you can drill longer screws. Then use 2×6 sub-fascia boards to create the perimeter of the roof. Then take the rafters and cut them at the right length. Fix them in place. Fill the frame with some fiberglass batt insulation and close the frame with some plywood.

Finishing the project

The next thing that you will need to do is to install a drip edge so that the water from the roof won’t slide down the window panes. You will also need to install flashings. The last step is to nail roofing shingles in single overlapping layers over the roof.
