Installing a foam flat roof
If you are looking for a cheap roofing solution, then a foam roof can be one of your choices. Foam roof are made from a foam base and are usually used as an under-layer for a larger roof, but they are also used as basic roofs. To install a foam roof you will need to have a flat roof or a low-sloped one.
- Wet sponge
- Pump system
- Liquid foam
- Protective Coating
Preparing the roof
First of all you will need to clean the roof. Remove any debris and gravel. Use a normal broom to do this. Clean the roof as good as possible. This is also the time to inspect the roof for any problems.
Because the foam that you will apply is liquid, you will need to apply a layer of caulking or cement to the surface of the roof. This way you will seal any gaps and will provide a base material for the foam to stick to. You can also use plywood boards, plastic membranes, but these are more expensive.
Installing the foam roof
Most foam roofs come in different containers. Each of them contains a part of the formula needed to create the foam roof. You will need a pumping system to get the liquid out of the drums. Ask for pumps at the local hardware store. You will also need an application gun mounted at the other end of the pumps. This will mix the ingredients together and produce the foam.
After the foam has been applied, you will need to add a protective coating. The protective coating will need to be applied on multiple layers. Spread the coating to the edges of the roof and then let it dry.
