Last touches for the fence

It’s quite easy to build a metal fence but it can become difficult taking into consideration the degree of detail that you expect. To make work easier you can use decorative metal fencing and escape from the burden of welding it yourself. Most of the times a metal fence is used for security but in some cases it’s just an accent for a block wall that has been there before.

You can use different materials like chain link, wrought iron or aluminum.

Materials needed for the project:

  • Measuring tape
  • Fencing panels
  • Posts of the metal fence
  • Shovel
  • Cement
  • Bucket for mixing
  • Drill
  • Ratchet set
  • Assorted hardware to use it for attaching the panels to the posts
  • Leveler
  • Wood and nails

You need to choose a design to be practical in the area you are going to use it. For example, you can use a stronger design for an area with low security or a decorative design for an area where landscaping is important. There is also the possibility of combining them and some great choices would be wrought iron or aluminum.

Measuring is very important for such a project. The prefabricated panels come with a
unique length and surely in the end you will have to cut some of them in order to get a perfect fit.

Marking and digging

First you have to measure the length between two posts and mark them each time on the
ground. The major condition is that the holes need to be uniform, so that the fence posts will be even in the end.

When you prepare the concrete is better to mix just for one post at a time and to be very
careful at the consistency because it has to keep the post in place. After that you have to brace somehow the post so that it stays in same position during a drying period. For the next post, you will use the first one as a guide because in the end they should be all even.

Now, the time has come to attach the panel to one post at a time using the equipment that
you received with the panels. You just have to attach the top bolt and after that you go to the next post and attach the top of the panel in that place.

Finishing the job

As a last step, you need to put all the caps to the posts and be sure that in case of extra
gate panels they will work as they should.

It’s nothing difficult in building a metal fence but it can take some time. A little bit of help will be well received thinking that is not such an easy project. Measurements need to be very precise and this is why is a good idea to check them twice.  In case of any doubt, you can use the panel to see if the posts have been well set. In some cases you will receive some directions from the manufacturers and it’s better to follow them. After all of these, in the end the result will be a pleasing one.
