Removing air conditioner fan
The fan is the heart of any air conditioner. It works to circulate the air in the entire room. If you discover some problems with the air circulation, it may be a problem with the air conditioner fan.
Tools and Materials Needed:
- Empty plastic container
- Torque wrench or a screwdriver
- Cleaning rag
- Spray cleaner
- Face mask
Before you start the air conditioner fan cleaning, be sure that you wear safety gloves and face mask. This will prevent you from injuring yourself in the sharp edges and also from inhaling dust.
Disassembling the air conditioner unit
Every air conditioner is protected by a cover made of metal. To remove this cover, use a screwdriver and remove the screws. Put them in a safe place as you will need them later. Take the cover off slowly to avoid damaging any parts. To remove the fan, unscrew the two bolts that hold it in place. You may need to use a torque wrench.
Cleaning the fan
For cleaning use plain water. Spray it on the fan and use a rag to remove stains and fixed dirt. Handle the fan with great care. Use also spray cleaners. When you use this, make sure that the wiring isn’t touched by the spray solution. Remove any excess water or cleaner off the fan. Leave the fan to dry.
Reassembling the fan
Reassemble the fan using the torque wrench and screws. Tighten the screws and bolts so to make sure the fan is properly fixed. The fan needs to be placed correctly otherwise the vibrations can cause damage to the entire unit. Reinstall the cover.
Plug-in the air conditioner unit and set a low temperature on the thermostat so that the unit will start working immediately. Listen for any noises or vibrations.
