Trellis for climbing flowers

Building a trellis for climbing roses is an easy job. The trellis will help the roses to climb around your home and create a beautiful wall of flowers. Some of the materials and tools that you will need are:

• 1 by 1 1/2 inch wooden boards – number will vary
• Hammer
• Nails
• Roses
• Stain
• Paint
• Galvanized steel wire
• Paint brushes
• Hooks
• Gloves

Building the trellis

First of all you will need at least a dozen wood boards for this structure.

Then you will need to lay them down in front of you. You will need to place 5 of the boards about two inches apart and with the ends up. Then, take 5 more pieces of wood and lay them across the others, creating a cross like pattern. Now, you can fix the boards together by nailing them together. Now, before you make any cuts and nailing, make sure the boards are at the right size. You need to calculate the height of the trellis.

Painting the trellis

It’s important to use exterior paint for the trellis, because it will be exposed to lots of sunlight, rain, wind, etc. After you paint the trellis, make sure it has dried up completely.

Fixing the trellis

Now it’s time to find a spot for the flowers and for the trellis. One nice and easy way to fix the trellis is against a fence. Use some wire to fix it properly. If you want to attach it near your home, then you will need to use some hooks and drill some holes in your home’s wall.
