Well insulated garage
Electric heaters are a more and more popular choice for heating rooms and garages. Their functioning mechanism is realized through convection, or to put it simple: as the air that circulates around them is heated, new air takes its place and is also heated. It’s recommended to size an electric heater because of 2 reasons: if it is too small, it won’t be able to heat the entire area and if it is too big, it will consume unnecessary energy.
Follow these tips for obtaining amazing results
- First you want to determine the level of insulation in your garage. A big heater is recommended when your garage has more than 2 windows. If your garage is well insulated, the size of the heater will depend on the size of the garage.
- Measure the length and the width of your garage and then multiply them to obtain the number of square metres of the garage.
- One step more and you’re done! You will need the appropriate heater wattage for your garage. It’s recommended that for a well insulated garage, the heater wattage will be: 10 watts/1 square foot. For a non-insulated garage: 15-20 watts/1 square foot.
- If your garage ceiling is higher than 8 feet, you will have to increase heater wattage by 25% for every 2 feet that exceed the 8 feet.
