Basement tips - waterproofing
Basement floods are every homeowner’s nightmare. You can prevent a basement flood by following some important steps. Using a waterproofing material is an important step, but also having a safe and durable structure is important.
So before you start installing or applying the waterproofing material, you will need to make sure that your basement walls are in once piece, that you do not have cracks, or holes in it and that you have cleaned, sandblasted and dried the walls.
When applying the waterproofing material, you will need to make sure that you are following the instructions provided by the manufacturer.
You also need to learn to tell the difference from different waterproofing solutions, like water-repellent and waterproofing coating. The water-repellent is an exterior coating that is not meant for under-grade concrete, because it cannot prevent water from passing through the walls.
Waterproofing systems, on the other hand, are systems that can be installed on the interior or exterior of your basement, and can prevent water from infiltrating into your basement due to hydrostatic pressure.
If you do not have serious water problems in your basement, then you can just use a dehumidifier, for damp basements.
