Basement waterproofing with household products
If you are on a tight budget and you want to waterproof your basement, then you have a few simple solutions, using only household product and objects.
Some of the tools and materials that you will need are:
- Rocks and Gravel
- Thin Socks
- Plastic Pipes
- Bucket or Pan
- Box Fan
- Rock Salt
The first thing that you need to do before starting to waterproof your basement is clean it up. Remove all the objects from your basement and also start removing the debris by using a broom and a brush.
You can use gravel and rocks to help absorb the moisture in your basement. So what you can do is use some buckets to collect the gravel and rocks and then lay an even layer of gravel on the floor of the basement. These will absorb water and it will be easier for you to get it out.
Coal is one of the best ways for absorbing moisture and it also helps remove odors. What you can do is hang some small bags of coal in your basement and these will absorb the moisture and odors.
Rock salt is also very used to dehumidify basements. It’s also one of the most inexpensive ways to do it. Take a bucket and fill it halfway with rock salt. Then use a fan to circulate the air towards the salt. This will saturate the salt with water. Then you just need to dry it under the sun and repeat the process.
