Drywall mold prevention

Drywalls are quite vulnerable to mold and the worst part is that mold cannot be removed from drywall. What you can do is replace the drywall sheet. So to avoid this, you will need to take some measurements to prevent mold from attacking your drywall.

There are a few things that you can do to prevent mold from appearing:

  • first of all, you will need to avoid depositing objects that are prone to mold and mildew infestation, like paper or food, in humid areas.
  • also plants and wet cloths can lead to mold infestation.

Dehumidifier

For humid basement, one of the best solutions if using a basement dehumidifier. A dehumidifier will absorb the moisture in the air and collect it in a container. It will also filtrate the air, so it will remove any mold roots.

What you need to know is that a dehumidifier uses a lot of power, so the outlets need to withstand the electricity transfer.

Drywall maintenance

If you do not have a humid basement, but mold is always present on your walls, then you may have a plumbing problem. If you want to check this issue, you may need to cut one of the drywall sheets and inspect the plumbing inside the wall.

Check the plumbing for rust and leaks. Also look for discolored, damp, cracked or damaged areas of the wall.
